Dumb and Totally Avoidable Job Search Mistakes:

1. Using a goofy email address (“imaprincess”, “hotchik”, “cooldude”) on job search correspondence. This isn’t MySpace—this is your professional life.
2. Being unprepared for an interview. You wouldn’t blow off a final exam without studying, so why ruin your chances for a job by not rehearsing your answers to interview questions? Use a formal mock interview or just have a friend fire questions at you. Never go into an interview cold.
3. Sending resumes with spelling or grammatical errors. Some of these send recruiters into gales of laughter and your resume into the circular file. How would you feel if your resume had some of the following blunders on it:
• "good atttention to detail" (Oh really?)
• A gentleman had over 20 years experience as a warehouse manager but unfortunately spelled it whorehouse.
• “Participated in hunger strike for the Salivation Army.”
